UI design for an app to manage courses:
The University of Barcelona brings together various entities to manage the different courses offered to its students or future teachers.
The brief:
The IT people created an app but it lacked UI design so they hired me to define the user flow and the visual appearance of their screens. This app facilitates the registration and management of these courses.
Sitemap:
At the first stage I worked with the client to understand the user needs and visualised the app structure and content. The sitemap was consciously kept simple to ensure that the app could be quickly and easily navigated.
Wireframes:
I started sketching some initial concepts and wireframes and discussed them with the client to ensure that we were both on the same page.
Visual Design:
The visual part had to be clean and simple to use. Because most of the users were students, I looked for a casual and dynamic style. I decided to play with neutral colours for the structure and highlight certain elements with the bright green colour. For secondary colours, I used red and blue, which were used also for the icon design illustrations set that I created to show what the app can do. I chose two very different typefaces: a serif, to give a classic touch reminding the institution of the University, and a sans serif, to be modern and legible.
